Typst to Word gives a collaborator who works in Word a .docx they can edit and comment on. Equations arrive as Word math, so they stay editable.
Use it when
Section titled “Use it when”- a coauthor or editor needs Track Changes or Word comments;
- a submission system asks for a Word file;
- you need the prose and equations in Office Math.
Send the PDF when exact pagination is what you agreed on. Word reflows the document with the recipient’s fonts and page settings.
Create the Word file
Section titled “Create the Word file”- Open Typst to Word, or run
/typst-to-word. - Paste a Typst fragment or a complete document, or choose Load example.
- Choose Convert.
- Choose Save to keep
converted.docx. - Open the file in Word or another compatible editor and read it through.
Expect the layout to change
Section titled “Expect the layout to change”The bundled Pandoc reads the pasted Typst on your device and writes the Word file. Headings, paragraphs, emphasis, lists, simple tables, and math give the best results. Typst functions, show rules, packages, and page layout don’t carry over.
For a whole Typst project, use Export as Word (.docx) in the project’s Export menu instead. That route starts from Typst’s own HTML output, so equations, citations, and the bibliography come through better. Export and convert a project explains it.
Check these before sending the .docx:
- Equation structure and numbering.
- Figures, their size, and captions.
- Table widths.
- Footnotes, citations, and references.
- Heading levels.
Keep the Typst source as the master copy unless your team agrees to continue in Word. For the way back, use Word to Typst.
