Find Citations

Find Citations starts from the gap in front of you: a topic you need to understand, a sentence that needs evidence, or a draft whose unsupported claims are hard to spot.

Choose a search mode

• Topic search looks across the scholarly indexes you select.
• From document scans the open draft for passages that may need sources, then turns a chosen passage into a search.
• Review gives the open paper a Friendly or Fire review through your configured assistant.
• Saved citations keeps results you want to compare or export.

Search finds candidates. It does not decide that a paper is trustworthy or that it supports your exact claim.

Find evidence for a passage

1. Open Find Citations, or run /find-citations.
2. Search a concrete concept, method, population, or outcome. Avoid pasting the conclusion you hope to prove.
3. Choose the indexes relevant to the field.
4. Open promising results and read the original source.
5. Save the records that survive your review, then export BibTeX or add a citation to the project.

For example, search calibration error uncertainty regression rather than papers proving our method is better. The first query leaves room for contradictory evidence and clearer terminology.

How results are handled

Oleafly combines likely duplicate records, preserving the richest metadata from the available indexes. Identifier and topic search require a network connection. Some sources may need optional settings under Settings → Integrations → Citation Search.

Document scanning works from the open manuscript. A review uses the assistant provider you configured and may send the relevant paper text to that provider under your approval and model settings.

Read before citing

Titles and abstracts can overstate what a study establishes. Check the methods, population, outcome, limitations, date, and full text. Make sure the sentence you write is no stronger than the source.
