Typst Editor

Create a blank Typst project in an editor-first layout, then compile and export it locally.

Typst Editor starts with the source and gives it the screen. It is a clean entry point for experienced Typst writers, small laptop displays, or any document where you would rather open the preview only when you need it.

Start in source mode

Turn on Settings → Experimentation → LaTeX tools.
Open Typst Editor, or run /typst-editor.
Oleafly creates Untitled Typst document and opens the editor-only layout.
Rename the project and write in the .typ file.
Switch to Split or Preview from the project toolbar when you want to see the PDF.

Today we tested *three* conditions.

The bundled Typst engine compiles locally. The source remains an ordinary project file, and PDF export is available from the project toolbar.

Choose the other starter when

Visual Typst Editor creates the same project type but opens in a split source-and-preview layout. Use that route when you are learning syntax or making visual decisions line by line.

Typst projects do not use LaTeX packages or tlmgr, and LaTeX commands are not accepted as Typst syntax. If your content already exists in another format, start with Markdown to Typst, LaTeX to Typst, or PDF to Typst.

Current Typst projects do not support SyncTeX-style source-to-PDF navigation. See Writing in Typst for editing, formatting, and export details.
