arXiv to Typst
Convert an arXiv paper's LaTeX source into Typst, with a compile check that lists what did not convert.

arXiv to Typst starts from the source the authors submitted, not from the PDF. Oleafly downloads or unpacks the e-print, converts its main LaTeX file to Typst, and compiles the result once so you can see what still needs a fix.
Use it when
Section titled “Use it when”- you want an arXiv paper’s structure in Typst;
- you are an author moving your own submission to Typst;
- the paper’s license allows the reuse you have in mind.
To keep the paper in LaTeX, use arXiv to LaTeX. A paper without a source bundle can’t go through this route. PDF to Typst rebuilds source from the PDF instead.
Convert a paper
Section titled “Convert a paper”- Open arXiv to Typst, or run
/arxiv-to-typst. - Under arXiv ID, enter an identifier such as
1706.03762. To work offline, switch to Saved archive and choose a.tar.gz,.tgz, or.gzsource archive. - Choose Convert.
- Read the note under the result. It names the main LaTeX file, says whether Typst compiled the result, and counts the items that did not convert. The list below the note gives each Typst error with its line number and each item that did not convert.
- Choose Save ZIP to keep
main.typwith the paper’s other files, or Create project to open it as a Typst project.
What the conversion does
Section titled “What the conversion does”Oleafly finds the main file and pulls the text of files it loads with \input, \include, or \subfile into it. Pandoc converts that LaTeX to Typst with numbered sections. Figures, bibliography files, and the other non-TeX files in the archive keep their folders beside main.typ, so the converted file can still find its images. Typst then compiles the converted file as a check.
Looking up an ID downloads the source from arXiv and needs a network connection. A saved archive converts entirely on your device, with the Pandoc that ships with Oleafly.
What to fix by hand
Section titled “What to fix by hand”Custom macros, packages without a Typst equivalent, TikZ pictures, complex tables, and bibliography styles are the usual leftovers. Work through the Typst errors in the list first, then compare the compiled PDF with the paper section by section. Typst can’t show EPS figures, so convert those to PDF, PNG, or SVG.
To convert a LaTeX project you already have in Oleafly, use Convert to a Typst project from the command palette instead. Typst projects explains it.
