Shared history
Look back through every change to a shared project, open an earlier version, compare two versions, name a version, and restore a file or the whole project.
A shared project keeps its whole history of changes, and everyone in it sees the same history. You can read the project as it was at any point, see what changed between two points, and bring back an earlier version of a file or of the whole project.
Find the history
Section titled “Find the history”Open the Live collaboration pane from the project rail and expand History. It’s there while the project is shared. Refresh history updates the list.
The changes are grouped by day. Each entry shows:
- when the changes were made, as one time or a range such as “10:02 to 10:41”
- who made them, up to three names and then “and 2 more”
- the file that changed, or how many files changed, such as “Files changed: 4”
- the name of the version, if someone named it
Show older changes at the bottom loads more. Changes from before Oleafly started recording when each change was made are grouped under Earlier changes.
Open a version
Section titled “Open a version”Select Open on an entry to see the project as it was after those changes. The window lists the files those changes touched. Select one to read it as it was then. Nothing you do there changes the project. A file that didn’t exist yet says “This file didn’t exist in this version.”
Anyone in the project can open a version, whatever their role.
Compare two versions
Section titled “Compare two versions”- Select Compare on the first version.
- Oleafly asks you to pick a second version. Select Compare with this on it. Cancel stops.
- Changes between two versions opens. It lists the files that changed. Select a file to see what changed in it.
If no text changed between the two, it says “No text changed between these versions.”
Name a version
Section titled “Name a version”Give a version a name to find it again later, such as “Sent to the reviewers”. Select Name this version on the entry, type the Version name and select Save. The name shows on the entry for everyone. Rename changes it and Remove name takes it off.
Owners and editors can name versions while the project is connected.
Restore a file or the whole project
Section titled “Restore a file or the whole project”Open the version you want back, then choose:
- Restore this file to put one file back as it was in that version.
- Restore whole project to put every file back as it was in that version.
Oleafly asks first, because the change reaches everyone in the project. Restoring is a new change in the history, so nothing is lost: the text from before the restore stays in the history, and you can go back to it the same way.
Restoring puts back the text of each file and brings back files deleted since that version. Files added later stay in the project. Figures and other non-text files keep their current version.
Only owners and editors can restore. Tell your co-authors before you restore the whole project, because it changes the files for everyone.
Your own history
Section titled “Your own history”The shared history sits beside the history each person keeps on their own computer. Saved checkpoints and your Git commits are still yours alone. Outside edits & versions compares them.
