Oleafly can present any compiled PDF: a Beamer deck, Typst slides made with Polylux or Touying, or a paper you want to page through on a projector. The slides open in their own window, and your project stays open behind them.
Start a presentation
Section titled “Start a presentation”Compile the project first. Then open Present on the PDF preview toolbar and choose one of:
- Present from the start
- Present from this page, which starts at the page showing in the preview
- Present with presenter view
When the preview toolbar is narrow, Present moves into its overflow menu. The preview in its own window has the same button.
From the ⌘K palette, Present slides starts at the first slide, and Present slides with presenter view opens both windows. If a PDF from the project is open in an editor tab, the palette presents that file instead of the compiled document.
If there is nothing to show yet, the window says the slides couldn’t be opened and asks you to compile.
Where the windows go
Section titled “Where the windows go”- Without presenter view, the slides fill the screen Oleafly is on.
- With presenter view and a second display, the slides go full screen on the other display, and the presenter view opens on the display you are working on.
- With presenter view on one display, the slides open in a smaller window near the top-right corner, and the presenter view opens in a window of its own. That suits a rehearsal on a laptop.
Starting a new presentation closes the one that was running.
Move through the slides
Section titled “Move through the slides”These keys work in both the slide window and the presenter view:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| →, ↓, Page Down, Space, Enter, N | Next slide |
| ←, ↑, Page Up, Backspace, P | Previous slide |
| Home / End | First / last slide |
| B or . | Blank the audience screen, or bring it back |
| Esc | End the presentation |
Most presentation remotes send Page Down and Page Up, so they work too. In the slide window, a click goes forward and a right-click goes back. The pointer hides after two seconds without movement.
Both windows always show the same slide. Ending the presentation, or closing either window, closes both.
The presenter view
Section titled “The presenter view”The presenter view is for your screen only. It shows:
- the slide number, such as “Slide 3 of 20”
- Elapsed time, with buttons to pause, resume, and reset the timer, and the current time beside it
- Current slide and Next slide, or a note that you are on the last slide
- Speaker notes for the current slide
- buttons for the previous slide, the next slide, blanking the audience screen, and End presentation
While the audience screen is blank, the presenter view says so, and B brings the slides back.
Speaker notes
Section titled “Speaker notes”Oleafly reads notes in the format the pdfpc presenter uses:
- In a Typst project, it asks Typst for the notes stored in the document. Polylux and Touying both store their speaker notes this way, so notes written with either one appear without extra setup.
- Otherwise, it looks for a
.pdfpcfile with the same name next to the main file, such asmain.pdfpcbesidemain.tex. When you present a PDF from the project, it looks for the.pdfpcfile next to that PDF.
Slides without notes show “No speaker notes for this slide.”
