# Find sources

Search scholarly indexes, find citations for a paragraph, and review evidence beside your manuscript.

Open **Citation Search** to find papers without leaving your project. Search for a topic yourself, or start from a paragraph that needs a source.

## Search across indexes

Enter a research question, title, or keywords. Choose from arXiv, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, PubMed, and OpenAlex. Google Scholar search is available with a configured Serper key.

Results from the selected sources are combined and deduplicated. Read the title, authors, venue, year, and identifier before adding a paper to your bibliography.

For a paper you already know, [Add citation](/docs/citations/) is the direct route: paste its DOI or arXiv identifier.

## Find sources for a paragraph

Switch to **From document**, or run **Find citations in document** from the command palette. Use the current document or a selected passage.

Oleafly searches for candidate sources paragraph by paragraph and filters records already in the bibliography. Adjust the score threshold and result limits to narrow the list.

Scores help sort the candidates. With a configured AI provider, a result can include reasoning for or against its relevance. Without AI, the scan uses heuristic ranking. Open the paper and check its evidence before citing it.

## Keep the useful results

Insert the references you want through the citation workflow. The entries remain ordinary BibTeX in your project, ready for completion and reference navigation.

## Review the draft

The **Review** mode offers **Friendly** feedback for a constructive pass and **Fire** for a stricter critique. Give it the active document or selected passage, then work through the suggestions alongside the source.

## Configure sources

Settings → Integrations holds optional source credentials, including Serper and alphaXiv, and an OpenAlex contact email. Search requests contain the identifier, topic, or paragraph-derived query. Hosted AI ranking and review also send the supplied context to the selected model.
